The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports that 26-year-old Christian Eugene Cagle passed away Saturday afternoon at St. Mary’s Medical Center, two days after the initial crash which involved a driver from Boynton Beach.
The incident occurred just before 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, in the 5600 block of State Road 80. According to traffic investigators, Cagle was traveling eastbound in a Taizhou Hurricane scooter when he was struck from behind by a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. The driver of the Chevy, identified as 31-year-old Kourtney Nicholas Noel of Boynton Beach, reportedly failed to see the scooter ahead of him.
The front passenger corner of the Chevrolet struck the rear of the scooter. The force of the collision ejected Cagle from the scooter, sending both him and the scooter into the right shoulder of the highway where they came to a stop against a guardrail. Authorities noted that Cagle was not wearing any safety equipment at the time of the crash.
While Noel was able to bring his vehicle to a controlled stop just east of the scene and reported no injuries, Cagle was rushed to the hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, led by Investigator Greg Lynch of the PBSO Traffic Division. No charges have been filed.
