BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Florida Atlantic University student is facing a DUI charge after Boca Raton police say she failed to stop for an officer, swerved across lane lines, and then blew well above the legal limit when she finally pulled into a campus parking lot. Mckenzie Elle Winnerling, 19 was arrested in the early morning hours of April 6, 2026, and charged with DUI.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, the officer spotted Winnerling’s 2013 silver Cadillac sedan traveling westbound on West Glades Road around 10:53 p.m. on April 5 with a front passenger headlight out. The vehicle failed to move when a traffic light turned green, then drifted across lane lines into an adjacent lane. The officer activated overhead lights to initiate a traffic stop, but Winnerling’s vehicle did not pull over — even after the officer turned on his siren and air horn multiple times. The vehicle eventually turned into FAU’s Lot 21 parking area, where it came to a stop.

When the officer made contact with Winnerling, he noted a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech, bloodshot and watery eyes, and an unsteady gait — she stumbled as she exited the vehicle. Winnerling told police she had consumed three “typical pours” of Pinot Grigio earlier that evening at The Standard Bar in Boca Raton. She allegedly had trouble performing several field sobriety exercises at the scene

Winnerling was transported to Boca Raton Police’s breath alcohol testing facility where she provided two breath samples: 0.222 and 0.205 — nearly three times Florida’s legal limit of 0.08. She was booked into custody at 1:07 a.m. on April 6 and is scheduled to appear in Delray Beach court on May 11, 2026.
