BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A former New Yorker now living in the G.L. Homes community of Boca Bridges was arrested Saturday after allegedly placing a family member in a rear choke hold during a breakfast dispute at the Way Beyond Bagels restaurant on Clint Moore Road. Stephen Bauman, 63, of Chauvet Way, faces a charge of simple domestic battery, a misdemeanor, following the incident that unfolded in front of other diners.

According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office probable cause affidavit reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, deputies responded to the restaurant at 9858 Clint Moore Road around 1:00 p.m. on April 18. When deputies arrived, Bauman reportedly told them immediately that he had “messed up.” An investigation revealed that a verbal argument had escalated, with Bauman allegedly banging a glass cup on an outdoor table before grabbing the victim from behind in a choke hold. The victim told deputies, “my father choked me.”

Witnesses at the restaurant called 911 and observed the altercation, though they had left the scene before deputies could speak with them. A second witness who was present at the table corroborated the victim’s account and told deputies she grabbed Bauman’s arm to make him stop. The victim reported no injuries and did not require medical treatment.

Bauman was arrested and later released on his own recognizance. He is the latest New Yorker in his 60s, living in a community built by GL Homes, to face criminal charges in South Florida. The case against Mitchell Schuman, living in Lotus, continues. Schuman is accused of battering a child riding an e-bike.
