Game Of Rock Paper Scissors Ends With 911 Call.

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — What started as a game ended in handcuffs. Broward Sheriff’s Office Threat Management Unit detectives say a 13-year-old student called 911 after losing a round of rock, paper, scissors — triggering a massive law enforcement response at two Broward County schools and landing him in serious legal trouble.
On Wednesday afternoon, Broward County Regional Communications received reports of a possible shooting threat at Deerfield Beach Middle School shortly after 12:30 p.m. Minutes later, a similar threat came in targeting Cypress Bay High School in Weston. Deputies, crime suppression teams, SWAT, and Threat Management Unit detectives responded to both campuses. Both schools were placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.
Detectives quickly identified the teen responsible for the Deerfield Beach call and confronted him at the school. He admitted he had been playing rock, paper, scissors with another student — with the loser required to call 911. He lost, then dialed the emergency line and told a dispatcher he was “about to shoot the school.” The 13-year-old was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing. He now faces charges including unlawful use of a two-way communication device, misuse of 911, and disruption of a school function — as well as a felony charge of making a false report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner.
BocaNewsNow.com has learned that Detectives are separately investigating the threat made against Cypress Bay High School; preliminary information indicates the two incidents are not connected. “This is not a game and there is nothing routine about these calls,” Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony said. “Every report of a threat is thoroughly investigated and may lead to an arrest.”
