American Express Sues. You Don’t Get Your Skymiles If You Don’t Pay Your Bill…

WELLINGTON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Wellington woman is facing a lawsuit from American Express National Bank over claims that she failed to pay more than $128,000 charged to a Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express card. The suit, just filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court, names Katherine Kahanovitz of Wellington as the defendant.
According to the complaint, American Express says Kahanovitz was the basic card member on the Delta SkyMiles Reserve account and was responsible for paying all charges, finance charges and fees. The bank claims she used the card for various purchases but did not make required payments, causing the account to become delinquent.
American Express alleges the Delta Reserve account balance is $128,446.68. The lawsuit seeks judgment for breach of contract, account stated and unjust enrichment, plus court costs. The filing also includes a separate claim involving an American Express Platinum Card, with an alleged balance of $8,408.46.
American Express is represented in the filing by staff attorneys Lisa DiSalle and Joshua James Knurr. Kahanovitz had not filed a response in the court document reviewed Sunday by BocaNewsNow.com. If Ms. Kahanovitz was seeking status with her Skymiles, she may be out of luck. Most credit card companies tend to deny miles and points when accounts are delinquent.
