Car Slammed By Tri-Rail, Driver Dies

Train-Death

BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man is dead and an investigation is underway after a Tri-Rail tran slammed into an SUV in Oakland Park, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say the crash happened around 10:01 a.m. Wednesday near the 1500 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard. Deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue crews responded to reports of a collision involving a train and a vehicle at the railroad crossing. The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit, the man was driving a 2021 Chevrolet Trax eastbound when the railroad crossing safety equipment activated for an approaching southbound Tri-Rail train. Detectives say the SUV initially stopped partially beneath the crossing gate before the driver accelerated forward, drove under the gate and entered the path of the train.

Authorities say the train struck the driver’s side of the SUV and pushed the vehicle roughly 1,300 feet south before coming to a stop. No passengers or crew members aboard the train were injured. The crash remains under investigation.
