BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — American Express is suing a Boca Raton man, claiming he ran up a tab of nearly $59,000 on a Platinum Card and stopped paying. The lawsuit, just filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court and obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, names Heath Cohen of Harbor Springs Circle as the defendant and seeks $58,632.98, plus court costs.
The complaint, filed by Sunrise-based law firm Modlin Slinsky on behalf of American Express National Bank, lays out three separate legal theories: breach of contract, money lent, and accounts stated. According to court records, the bank sent Cohen a statement dated March 27, 2026, showing the balance due, and he failed to object or pay within a reasonable time. The account has since been cancelled.
Cohen’s most recent statement suggests payment problems. The minimum payment due is listed at $12,309.16 — which includes a past-due amount of $8,968.31. The bank also tacked on a $40 late fee and charged $1,333.50 in interest during the final billing period. The statement warns that if he were to make only minimum payments going forward, it would take approximately 33 years to pay off the balance, at a total estimated cost of around $150,742.
Cohen has not yet filed a response in the case, according to court records.
