BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Florida Atlantic University has a new five-year roadmap, and state regulators just signed off on it.

The State University System of Florida’s Board of Governors approved FAU’s strategic plan for 2026 through 2031, dubbed “2031FAU: Where Tomorrow Begins.” University leaders say the plan is meant to guide FAU’s priorities over the next five years, with a focus on student success, research, and the school’s impact on the surrounding community.

“In a time of unprecedented change and uncertainty in higher education, this strategic plan is the roadmap that ensures Florida Atlantic remains ‘Where Tomorrow Begins’ for all our students,” FAU President Adam Hasner said in a statement announcing the plan’s approval. Hasner said the goal is to keep pushing FAU’s standing as a top-tier R1 research institution while creating more opportunities for students and the state.

The plan is built around four main imperatives. FAU wants to deliver a measurable return on investment for every one of its students, develop research aimed at healthier and safer communities, make better use of its strategic and geographic position in South Florida, and raise its national profile. On the research side, FAU is doubling down on four specific areas: neuroscience and healthy aging, quantum computing, environmental and coastal innovation, and national defense and autonomous systems. The university also wants to turn more of its research into licensing deals and spin-off companies, rather than just publishing findings.

The university held a series of open forums and listening sessions, and collected written feedback from faculty, students, staff, trustees, and members of the surrounding community before finalizing the document. The full plan is available on FAU’s website.
