OCEAN RIDGE, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A police officer in the Town of Ocean Ridge — just northeast of Boynton Beach — made a routine traffic stop earlier this week where multiple men were found to be “illegal immigrants.”
The stop, on July 21st at 11:13 a.m., took place in the 6600 block of North Ocean Boulevard. It’s what happened next that is either an act of compassion, an incident that will lead to scrutiny, or just a clerical issue that has yet to be resolved.
The men — who we are not naming — were taken into custody on immigration holds. Specifically: the state charge of entering Florida without authorization. Two were from Mexico, one from Honduras, and one from Nicaragua. They were each booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on a misdemeanor charge. Each man was declared “indigent” and assigned a public defender.
In each case, based on available records reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, prosecutors declined to proceed. Each man was released. And in a rare move, booking photos were seemingly deleted.
A check Thursday morning of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement database does not show that the men were turned over to immigration officials. That could simply be a clerical issue that will be resolved within days, ICE may have decided it had no interest in the men, or prosecutors and a Palm Beach County judge gave the men a compassionate second chance before federal officials could move in.
