LAKE WORTH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A pedestrian struck late Sunday night while crossing South Military Trail outside a crosswalk has died from his injuries. Lester Gutierrez, 24, was hit just before midnight in the 1900 block of South Military Trail, in unincorporated West Palm Beach near the Lake Worth area. He died Monday afternoon at St. Mary’s Medical Center, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in an updated report.
Investigators say Gutierrez darted from west to east mid-block, not in a crosswalk, directly into the path of a southbound 2020 GMC Terrain. The SUV’s right front end struck him, and he was thrown to the pavement after hitting the fender, hood and windshield.
The driver, 42-year-old Maria Lin Ramos, brought her SUV to a stop in a nearby plaza entrance and rendered aid before Gutierrez was taken to St. Mary’s in critical condition. PBSO has not filed charges against Ramos, who was wearing her seatbelt and showed no signs of impairment.
