BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton man is facing five felony charges after Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office investigators say he pulled a gun on his girlfriend, fired it into the ground near her head, and strangled her unconscious during an hours-long ordeal that stretched across the county.

Alexander Daniel Montague, 26, was booked on kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment and domestic violence felony battery, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by BocaNewsNow.com. Deputies say it started before dawn when Montague spotted his girlfriend of two years riding in a white BMW near Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach. He got out of his white Tesla, opened the BMW’s passenger door, threw water at the driver and threatened to shoot her friends if she didn’t get in his car. She allegedly did.

Once inside, Montague is accused of punching, kicking and striking her repeatedly, taking her phone, and dragging her back in by the hair when she tried to jump out at a traffic light, deputies say. He later drove her to a secluded spot near the Palm Beach Kennel Club, pulled a handgun from the trunk, fired a round into the ground, and pointed it at her head. “I’m gonna f-ing kill you right now,” he told her, according to the affidavit. Investigators say he strangled her into unconsciousness at a Tesla charging station near Delray Beach and, once back at their shared Boca Raton home, tried to force five sleeping pills on her.

She eventually got away and was found by deputies during a welfare check triggered by an unrelated road-rage call to West Palm Beach police. She was treated at Bethesda Hospital for injuries consistent with a concussion, along with bruising, a bite mark and significant hair loss. She told investigators Montague had hurt her before, but never like this.

Montague is now the subject of a mental health “hold” by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
