BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A second teenager is behind bars in the murder of 19-year-old Nigel Beckford, less than two weeks after Boynton Beach Police arrested the first suspect. Detectives say 17-year-old Jamill Jean-Baptiste of Lantana now faces a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm. He’s being held at a juvenile detention center in Broward County.
As BocaNewsNow.com first reported, Beckford was gunned down just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, near 100 Northwest 8th Avenue in Boynton Beach. The department’s shot detection system picked up multiple rounds fired in the area, and 911 calls started coming in seconds later. Officers working an off-duty detail nearby found Beckford suffering from gunshot wounds. He was conscious enough to give police limited information before he was rushed into surgery. He never made it. Beckford was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators say the gunfire came from a vehicle that fled the scene. License plate readers led detectives to a car abandoned near Quantum Lakes Drive — empty. No one was arrested that day. Detectives kept digging, identified a second vehicle tied to the shooting, and secured multiple search warrants that SWAT helped execute. On Aug. 17, the U.S. Marshals arrested the first suspect, 17-year-old Sebastian Abdul Miller of Boynton Beach. He’s charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and discharging a firearm from a vehicle and is being held at the Juvenile Assessment Center.
Major Case Detectives say the investigation continues. Police thanked the Town of Lantana Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service for their help building the case.
