POMPANO BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Got old or expired prescription pills sitting around the house? The Broward Sheriff’s Office wants them, along with your sensitive paperwork, at a free community event this Saturday, Sept. 19.
Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony and BSO are hosting Operation Medicine Cabinet and Shred-A-Thon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pompano Beach Community Park, 1600 Northeast 10th St. The goal is to help prevent prescription drug abuse and identity theft.
People who turn in prescription medications will get a $5 gift card while supplies last. The gift cards are only for those dropping off medication. Deputies won’t take needles or sharps.
Officials will also collect documents for shredding, with a limit of two boxes per vehicle. Each box can be no larger than 16 inches long, 12 inches wide and 12 inches high. For more information, call BSO at 954-831-8902 or visit sheriff.org.
