DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The angry Anti-Islamists who packed Friday’s Agricultural Reserve meeting in West Delray Beach are getting national attention. United States Senate Candidate Angie Nixon took to social media Saturday to blast not their right to protest, but the messages of hate and fear that many of them spewed.

BocaNewsNow.com shared some of the comments made during the meeting that was to focus on the future of the Agricultural Reserve and not the Islamic Worship Center and School that Palm Beach County approved back in 2022. But many of those in attendance, ignorant to Palm Beach County’s approval process and demanding a “do over,” spewed hate speech while suggesting that the Jewish community was here first and gets to decide whether Muslims are allowed. Candidate Nixon said that’s unacceptable.

”Following a chaotic scene yesterday in Delray Beach,” wrote Nixon, “where a far-right extremist led a mob of anti-Muslim protestors to disrupt a public meeting regarding a proposed Islamic center, U.S. Senate candidate and Florida State Representative Angie Nixon released the following statement: “Let me be absolutely clear: there is no place for Islamophobia in this state or country. Yesterday, we saw an extremist agitator travel to Delray Beach just so he could terrorize our Muslim neighbors, disrupt a local community meeting, and spread vile, dangerous hate. The Muslim community is part of the very fabric of our state. They are our neighbors. They are our doctors, our teachers, our small business owners, our friends, and so much more.

They have the same fundamental right to build a place of worship and practice their faith in peace just like anyone else, and they should never have to face down riot gear and out-of-state bigots just to do it. When extremists try to divide us and tell a group of Floridians that they don’t belong here, it threatens all of us. I stand unequivocally with our Muslim community in Delray Beach and across Florida. We will not be intimidated by professional agitators, and we will not let hate win.”

United States Senator Ashley Moody, running against Nixon to keep her position which was appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, did not share comments regarding Friday’s meeting. Moody is a Republican endorsed by President Trump. Angie Nixon is a Democrat.

  1. I appreciate Angie Nixon’s remarks in support of the Islamic Community in Delray Beach. As a Jew, I was saddened to hear so much fear and hate directed at the Islamic Center. This is not how we will become a united Florida or country. We need to be tolerant of all faiths, and recognize that Muslims do not incite terrorism. Unfortunately, there will always be individual groups that will incite terrorism, but that should not be attributed to the entire Muslim religion, and certainly not Muslims living in Florida. Ms. Nixon had the courage to stand up for a group that is being discriminated against, and I would expect her to be a champion for any group that is being attacked this way. And that’s another reason why Floridians should vote for Angie Nixon for US Senate.

    1. JL, you must not have been at the meeting because what you’re saying did not happen. The people in the meeting did not direct hate at all. And you as a Jew should be fearful of all the terrible antisemitism going on that’s been stirred up since the October 7 attack by the extremists to blame everything on Israel and the Jews. Have you not been watching what’s been going on in many states with you getting attacked etc.?

      1. Ed. Note: What meeting did you attend? Maybe watch the complete video of the meeting and/or read the transcript. Your comments are like the people during Covid who insisted no one was sick and the hospitals were empty. #FactsMatter.

  2. This article is total bs and is spun wayyy out of proportion except for that agitator coming to spew hatred!! I watched the meeting and it was not “But many of those in attendance, ignorant to Palm Beach County’s approval process and demanding a “do over,” spewed hate speech while suggesting that the Jewish community was here first and gets to decide whether Muslims are allowed.” First of all no one at all suggested that the Jewish community was here first and they get to decide whether Muslims are allowed!! This is a total LIE Boca News! No one spewed hate speech! Absolutely no one! Your news has been inflaming and exaggerating what happened at this meeting since you first heard about it and started writing about it and the community does not appreciate it! One person asked how they could go about rescinding the approval process which by the way, no one knew about because it was done administratively three years ago or four years ago and was not known by anyone. No one spewed hate speech until that jerk Jake Lang and his ridiculous cronies showed up at the scene and tried to agitate the crowd making the crowd look like they were part of his bs to cause unrest which completely undermined the validity of those that were there to voice real concerns about the Islamic center’s project. And yes, one person spoke about his fear because he’s been getting death threats from extremists in the area. Other people wanted to know who the people are who are putting up the mosque, center, school and daycare to make sure they’re not extremists. We don’t have a problem with loving, kind, peaceful Muslims at all! This Angie Nixon was correct about those agitators with everything she said, but not the rest of it at all and she wasn’t there so she should not be even commenting on this! And I’m a democrat. Stop writing these articles to inflame this meeting’s events so that your news organization gets more attention!
