BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The City of Boca Raton Friday announced the resignation of City Manager Mark Sohaney. Sohaney started at the end of September, 2025. Here is the official statement:

>> City Manager Mark Sohaney has announced his resignation from the City of Boca Raton to pursue a new professional opportunity that will allow him to return to serving the military community.

During his time with Boca Raton, Sohaney has emphasized a people-first approach to leadership, working closely with City employees and the executive leadership team to strengthen City operations, advance critical infrastructure priorities, and maintain a focus on delivering quality services to residents. His leadership has been guided by his People First – Mission Always philosophy, reflecting his commitment to both the employees who serve the City and the community they serve.

“Mark cares deeply about the people who work for this City and the community we serve,” said Mayor Andy Thomson. “He has brought a strong sense of service to his role as City Manager. We appreciate his leadership and the work he has done alongside our employees, and we wish him and his family the very best as he returns to serving the military community.”

A retired U.S. Navy Captain with nearly four decades of military and executive leadership experience, Sohaney previously held senior military leadership positions, including serving as Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Key West and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. His next opportunity will allow him to once again support the military community, building on a longstanding commitment to service members and their families.

“Serving as City Manager of Boca Raton has been an honor, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to work alongside an exceptional team of dedicated public servants,” said Sohaney. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together and have tremendous confidence in the people who serve this community every day. While this was not an easy decision, the opportunity to return to a mission that has been central to my professional life is especially meaningful to me. I am grateful to the Mayor, City Council, employees, and residents for the opportunity to serve Boca Raton, and I remain fully committed to ensuring a smooth transition.”

Sohaney will work closely with the Mayor, City Council, and executive leadership team to support continuity of City operations and an orderly leadership transition. The City Council will determine interim leadership arrangements and the process for selecting the City’s next City Manager.<<
