BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Florida Atlantic University now has $30 million in state money to start planning a 150,000-square-foot health professions building on its Boca Raton campus. The Health Professions Clinical Training and Research Facility would put future doctors, nurses and social workers under one roof, pulling together students and faculty from FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, and College of Social Work and Criminal Justice.
The money came in two pieces: $10 million in 2025 and $20 million this year, secured with help from Florida Senate Minority Leader Lori Berman and State Rep. Peggy Gossett-Seidman, R-Highland Beach. It’s the first state funding the project has received.
“This facility will enhance the education and training of future doctors, nurses and social workers, foster research and clinical collaboration across disciplines, and position Florida Atlantic to meet the state’s growing healthcare needs,” said FAU President Adam Hasner, who also thanked Gov. Ron DeSantis for his support.
Doctors, nurses and social workers work side by side in hospitals every day, but they’re usually trained separately. FAU wants them learning together before they hit the workforce, building teamwork and better coordination of patient care. The building will also include research space supporting FAU’s standing as a Carnegie-designated R1 research institution, and students in engineering, business and the humanities will have chances to get involved.
FAU says it will pursue more state funding and philanthropic support, and estimates the building could be finished by early 2030, depending on funding and project development.
