BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A $10,000 grant from the Florida Blue Foundation will pay for free swim lessons for 100 children through the YMCA of South Palm Beach County, including kids from low- to moderate-income families and children with special needs.
The YMCA — in a statement to BocaNewsNow.com — say it plans to deliver 800 lessons, with each child getting at least eight 30-minute sessions. Classes will stay small so instructors can work with kids one-on-one. Children will learn survival techniques from the Y’s Safety Around Water curriculum, including “Swim, Float, Swim” and “Jump, Push, Turn, Grab,” then move through progressive swim lessons.
“Here in South Florida, being around water is part of everyday life,” said Bryan Hunt, the YMCA’s senior branch executive director. “That’s why we believe every child should have the opportunity to learn how to swim and develop the skills they need to stay safe.”
The YMCA expects at least 75% of the children to show proficiency in essential water safety skills, and all of them to make measurable progress. Parents and caregivers will learn too, picking up more about water-related risks, emergency response and safe aquatic environments.
