Founder Of Boca Moms Connect: No Idea Boca Moms Were Posting Coronavirus Rumors
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Realtor Nikki Klein — founder of the “Boca Raton Moms Connect” Facebook Group — is taking a stand against the rumors and gossip posted on the sizable “private” Facebook group that she founded.
Facebook’s “Boca Raton Moms Connect” counts more than 13,000 members. But some of those members are posting rumors, innuendo and just plain misstatements regarding Coronavirus, schools, area hospitals and personal medical information. When contacted about the rumors and misinformation, Klein was appalled.
The respected Realtor with the Brilliant Team at Keller Williams said she would take immediate steps to stop the flow of lies and half truths.
“We will delete any posts which do not conform to our standards,” Nikki Klein told BocaNewsNow.com.
“We do not condone any inappropriate postings with false information and do our best to keep the community calm, united and well-informed, especially during this crisis.
Posts in the group over the past seven days, shared by members with BocaNewsNow.com, included claims of a major issue at West Boca Medical Center, claims about medical problems within the Palm Beach County School District, misinformation regarding Boca Raton Regional Hospital, and other unverified, unvetted information. Some of the misinformation led officials to make public statements reminding all to turn to the government — or legitimate media — for “real” information. Not Facebook groups.
“We are advising our group members to report accurately and to monitor their behavior,” said Klein.
“No disrespect to its members,” said one official with access to the group, speaking on the condition of anonymity to BocaNewsNow.com, “but many of these members need to focus on parenting and not spreading lies. Less Facebooking and more parenting would be helpful to everyone in a time of crisis. We’re trying to get out real information, but some in this mom group are acting like they’re in middle school cafeteria. They seem more comfortable with gossip than reality.”
Klein said the monitoring starts immediately.
