BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — There are now at least 33,193 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Florida, and at least 1,218 people have died. The new numbers from the Florida Department of Health come on the same day that Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to announce the first phase of reopening plans.
Of note, the day’s first report on “new”cases from the previous day show 768 new cases. That’s a jump from 524 the day before. Of course, new cases are based on the number of tests being performed, but CDC guidelines call for 14 consecutive days of decline before a state relaxes restrictions. The graph above — released by the health department — does not show such a trend.
In Palm Beach County, the latest update reveals 2,911 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 178 deaths.
The median age is 55.
The day’s hyper-local numbers: at least 434 cases in Boca Raton, 368 in Boynton Beach and 333 in Delray Beach.
