COVID-19: Palm Beach County School Board Has No Idea What Will Happen

IN BIZARRE EXCHANGE, DR. DEBRA ROBINSON AND CHAIR FRANK BARBIERI — A FORMER COP — DEBATED HOW MANY DEATH NOTIFICATIONS THEY’VE GIVEN

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Here’s your Cliff’s Notes guide to Wednesday’s Palm Beach County School Board Meeting:

The Palm Beach County School Board, over a few hours, made it clear that it has absolutely no idea what’s going to happen when schools reopen for in-person learning. It also has no idea exactly when that will be — aside from an ambiguous “one week after Palm Beach County moves to Phase Two and health officials say it’s okay to open.”

While school board members passionately agreed that children belong in school, and children with special needs and IEP plans must get the services to which they are entitled, there’s still no plan as to how all students will be socially distanced, where they will eat, how they will get to school, or whether there will actually be enough teachers willing to come into a building for school to operate with any sense of normalcy.

In a bizarre period of only-in-Florida boasting, School Board member Debra Robinson, MD, and School Board Chair Frank Barbieri, a former police officer and now attorney, compared how many death notifications they’ve each given. The relevance was Debra Robinson’s demand that school not open until it is completely safe to do so, while Barbieri said that’s a goal, but providing services to children is vital.

Schools open for remote only education on August 31st. To suggest that anyone knows when in-person learning might begin would be nothing more than #FakeSchoolNews.
