BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Representatives for football legend Emmitt Smith did not respond to multiple requests Monday from BocaNewsNow.com concerning Smith’s role as the keynote speaker for Boca Regional Hospital’s “Go Pink” event.

The event — to be held indoors at what used to be known as the Boca Resort — is set for later this month. Despite the presence of women battling breast cancer and living with compromised immune systems, Boca Regional Hospital is not requiring masks, proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or proof of negative COVID-19 tests.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s death Monday is attributed to his inability to fight COVID due to issues related to cancer.

”Having cancer can make you more likely to get severely ill from COVID-19. Treatments for many types of cancer can weaken your body’s ability to fight off disease,” reports the United States Centers for Disease Control.

It was not immediately clear why Smith — known for his philanthropy and post-football business dealings — would take part in such a controversial event.

“Baptist Health’s Boca Raton Regional Hospital continues to let this community down by its money grabbing efforts,” said an employee concerned by the hospital’s series of indoor events. “People are still dying. We’ve seen so much death here. Why are they doing this? Why would a good guy like Emmitt Smith do this?”

“Many women in Boca Raton are just horrible, self-absorbed people,” said a former Go Pink supporter who asked to remain anonymous. “There is no surprise that they feel the need for an indoor gala where they can be seen. These women could just write a check this year, but instead, they will jeopardize the lives of the very people they claim to be raising money to save just so they can eat lunch together in a hotel.”

The Go Pink luncheon is part of a series of indoor events, all overseen by Boca Raton Regional Hospital. The hospital — and parent company Baptist Health South — continue to refuse comment on the events that contradict CDC guidance.

Emmitt Smith’s representatives are not commenting on his plan to speak at the indoor “Go Pink” event in Boca Raton where vaccine status is irrelevant and mask use is optional. Smith charges between $50,000 and $100,000 as a fee.

BocaNewsNow.com reached out to Emmitt Smith’s agents at Octogon Management but received no response, including from Alex Rozis, the company’s Vice President of Global Communications.

There was also no response from “All American Speakers” which represents Smith for speaking engagements. AAE charges $50,000 to $100,000 as Emmitt Smith’s speaker fee. There is no listed discount for charitable events.

Sara Green-Hill also ignored requests for comment from BocaNewsNow.com. Green-Hill is spokesperson for “The Boca Raton,” now the name of the rebranded “Boca Resort.” Engaged in a massive marketing effort to rebuild the hotel’s reputation and image, Green-Hill wouldn’t share the hotel’s COVID-19 protocols, rules in effect for indoor luncheons, or what agreement “The Boca Raton” made with Emmitt Smith or The Boca Raton Hospital Foundation.
