BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Beaches in Boca Raton closed due to the grounding of a barge and tugboat several days ago are now open.
The United States Coast Guard earlier this morning announced that “the tug is off the beach and is being towed to Port Everglades for inspection and repairs. No pollution was reported. The cause of the grounding is under investigation.”
That led the City of Boca Raton to announce this: “The tugboat and barge have been removed from the South Beach area. The previously closed section of the beach between Osceola Drive to the Kirk Cottrell Pavilion is now open.”
There were no reports of injuries when the barge and tugboat encountered trouble and eventually washed ashore overnight Thursday into Friday.
