UPDATE: 10:44 a.m: Florida Highway Patrol just released preliminary information. Read the update here. We note the official crash location has moved into Delray Beach, just south of Linton Boulevard. It was originally noted as the area of Congress which is Boca Raton.

UPDATE: 9:11 a.m: Traffic is now moving, although slowly. This will be our last traffic update on this incident. We will post a separate story on the crash once information is received from FHP later in the day.

UPDATE: 8:25 a.m: As we suspected, there was a coding error from FDOT. The closures continue, with all traffic being diverted off I-95 southbound at Linton. Traffic is backed up PAST Boynton Beach Blvd.

UPDATE: 8:16 a.m: FDOT says that lanes are starting to open although we are not seeing that on traffic cameras. In fact, the backup is worse than it has been, extending well beyond Boynton Beach Blvd for the crash southbound at Congress. We encourage you to find alternate routes this morning, or enter I-95 southbound south of Glades Road. Northbound remains largely unaffected.

UPDATE: 7:45 a.m: All southbound traffic is now backed up to Boynton Beach Blvd. The Florida Department of Transportation has declared the incident ”major.”

The left side is southbound at Linton Blvd. as of 7:06 a.m. Traffic is backed up at least to Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach as traffic being routed off of I-95 at Linton Blvd. Northbound (the right side of the photo) is not affected. (FDOT).

The incident was first reported around 5:18 a.m. Tuesday. That led Florida Highway Patrol to close all four southbound lanes, with traffic being forced to exit at Linton. Despite the detour, traffic is backed up at least to Atlantic Avenue, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

Check back for updates throughout the morning. Most fatal crashes requires hours of investigative work. That means I-95 may be closed well into the morning as FHP works on the scene. Expect traffic to be exceptionally heavy on all feeder streets near I-95 in Delray Beach and Boca Raton throughout Tuesday morning.
