BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Public and private schools in Palm Beach County remain OPEN Tuesday, despite a tropical storm watch being issued by the National Hurricane Center at 5 a.m. The WATCH runs from Deerfield Beach in Broward County to the Jupiter Inlet in northern Palm Beach County.

Public and private schools waited until late Monday afternoon to announce that schools would open, as planned, on Tuesday following closure for the Jewish New Year of Rosh Hashana. The Palm Beach County School District announced its opening early Monday evening. Area private schools confirmed a normal school day just a short time before the public school announcement.

This is part of the announcement made by the Palm Beach County School District: “School campuses and District offices will remain open on Tuesday. All students and staff should report tomorrow as scheduled. District student aftercare programs will remain open tomorrow. However, after school extracurricular activities, including athletic events and practices have been canceled for tomorrow. All evening Adult Education programs for Tuesday are also canceled.

Although Palm Beach County is not located in the forecaster’s probability cone which indicates the projected path of the storm, hazardous conditions can occur outside of the cone. It’s also important to remember that the projected track is subject to change.”

Wednesday may be a different story, however, as Ian runs along Florida’s West Coast. 6-8 inches of rain will likely fall on parts of Palm Beach County, and wind may be too strong for school buses to operate safely.
