BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The popular “Living Room” Theater on the Florida Atlantic University campus in Boca Raton is set to close on February 9th. The closure is permanent. The four-screen theater never experienced a business rebound after COVID disrupted the entertainment business.

“This location was a dream brought to reality,” said Ernesto Rimoch, owner and President of Living Room Theaters. “Closing was a very sad and tough decision.”

Steve Herring, CEO of Living Room Theaters added, “when you have a love and passion for what you do, it’s incredibly tough to let go, especially when you’ve put so much of your energy into that work.”

According to officials with Living Room Theaters, the business model focused on foreign and independent films. Those sectors tend to be favored by older moviegoers, and those older moviegoers never returned en masse after COVID abated. Attendance in the key holiday period of Christmas through New Year’s was down 75 percent in 2022 compared to the same period in 2019.

The theater and restaurant café will be open every day up until the end, “to give our loyal patrons one last chance to come and say goodbye with us and celebrate the good thing we had here,” said Rimoch who added that films will continue to be shown until the theater closes on February 9th.
