BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton man is in the Palm Beach County Jail after police say he took the manager’s phone at an apartment complex, refused to give it back, and then threw it. Evan Sales is now facing one count of “robbery by sudden snatching.”
BocaNewsNow.com obtained the incident report. This is how Boca Raton Police documented their interaction with the suspect:
“On March 23, 2023, at approximately 1709 hours, I was dispatched to 2519 N Ocean Boulevard in reference to a disturbance between a resident and the manager. The call notes advised that the resident who they identified as Evan Sales who was causing a disturbance and took the office manager’s phone and is yelling at them now.
When I arrived on scene, I made contact with Victim 1 (V1). V1 stated in a sworn statement on my body camera the following. V1 had spoken to Evan Sales’ mother over the phone about a lease violation. Evan then came to VI’s office and began cursing at him. V1 stated to Evan that he would not communicate with him while he spoke to him like that. Evan left for a moment and then returned and started yelling profanities and insults at V1. V1 began recording the incident. During the altercation, Evan grabbed VI’s cellphone away from VI. VI noticed an injury to his pointer finger that was bleeding and believes it occurred when Evan grabbed his cellphone away from him.
I observed the recording from VI’s cellphone. I observed the moment that VI no longer had his cellphone and Evan then yelling profanities at V1 while VI stated repeatedly “give me my phone back.” VI requested for his phone back 5 times during the approximate 20 seconds that VI did not have his cellphone. Evan threw VI’s cellphone on the floor of the lobby where they were standing and that’s when V1 was able to retrieve his cellphone. In the video I was able to hear Evan state “you’ll get your phone back.”
I made contact with (a witness) who advised he was leaving work when he heard Evan yelling so loud that he returned to the lobby. WI stated that he observed Evan grab VI’s cell phone and also observed Evan throw the cellphone on the ground.”
Sales was questioned by Boca Raton Police and later taken into custody. He is being held as of Friday afternoon without bond.
