BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — United States Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) says businesses making money off of TikTok in the United States need to find other sources of revenue. Joining me Wednesday morning on South Florida’s First News on NewsRadio 610 WIOD, Sen. Rubio said he believes TikTok will hold American companies hostage as owner ByteDance collects — and controls — more and more information. Listen to the complete interview here:

Listen to the complete interview, above. Sen. Rubio says he believes that many Americans have no idea how much information ByteDance is collecting on both kids and adults, and that children are being lured in by addictive videos.

“TikTok is 100% beholden to the Communist Party of China. It it was beholden to the government of Belgium or the Netherlands, we’d be worried about it. But we should be freaked about it — the fact that the Chinese are weaponizing this thing against us,” said Rubio. “And by the way, all these businesses out there depend on TikTok for marketing, you’re going to be a Chinese hostage.”

Rubio — and lawmakers on both sides of aisle — continue to call for an all-out TikTok ban.

Meantime, Rubio also said he’s thrilled that South Florida has two teams in the Final Four.

“I’m proud to see that two of the four teams are from Florida. You know, obviously Miami has been a long road back and but as a user, I think it’s clearly the first time this far into the tournament, and it’s just a great story. So I think we’ve got a 50% chance of Florida winning the national championship, right. And that’s a good thing.”
