BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The man shot by police Monday morning in Boynton Beach actually called police on himself, then met police with two knives.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office just shared the following narrative of what happened and when. The man was treated and released from a hospital — he is now in police custody.
6:24 am : Male (just learned it was the suspect who called) calls 911 and advises there is a suspicious person holding two knives in front of Firehouse Sub’s located in the 9900 block of S. Military Trail, Boynton Beach.
6:34 am : Deputies arrive and notice the suspect sitting on a bench holding two knives. Deputies tried to establish a rapport with the suspect asking him to drop the knives. Instead, the suspect charged at the deputies with the knives extended resulting in one deputy discharging his weapon striking the suspect twice. Immediately, both deputies rendered aid to the suspect by applying a tourniquet. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
The suspect, Denley Junior Alexis, DOB: 5/17/2002, was transported to a local district to be interviewed. During the interview Denley admitted to calling 911 and admitted he charged deputies with the knives in hopes they would shoot him.
Denley Junior Alexis, will be charged with one count of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and one count of Resisting Arrest with Violence. He has been transported to the PBC Jail, No Bond. He should be attending first appearance in the morning.
FDLE (the lead investigators), PBSO Violent Crimes detectives and the State Attorney’s Office investigators are investigating this Deputy Involved Shooting.
Both Deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave which is standard department protocol.
