BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boynton Beach man is dead after police say he rode into the path of a car that struck him — and killed him — on South Military Trail. The man is identified as Grant Granger, 64, of Hampton Lakes Circle.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Granger was riding his bike southbound on South Military Trail in the northbound lane around 8 p.m. Thursday night. For reasons that are unclear, Granger “initiated an abrupt westbound maneuver in front of a 2011 Chevy Cruze. The driver of the Cruze swerved to the left in an effort to avoid Granger, however, the Cruze collided with Granger’s front wheel.”

Investigators add that, “Granger vaulted over the passenger side ‘A’ pillar (of the car), coming to final rest in the number one northbound lane of South Military Trail.” As part of the incident, the Chevy Cruze mounted the center raised median, traversed the southbound lanes, and came to final rest in the number three lane of Southbound South Military Trail, facing northbound.”

Granger was transported to Delray Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. No charges have been filed. There is no indication that the driver of the Chevy Cruze could have ever expected a bicyclist to pull in front of the vehicle.
