HURRICANE CENTER: Tropical Depression Forming East Of Florida, 90-Percent Chance Within Week

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — There is now a 90-percent chance that a tropical depression forms east of Florida within the next seven days. There is an 80-percent chance that the depression forms by Tuesday, according to a Sunday update from the National Hurricane Center.

The system is expected to move to the west, in the general direction of Florida. However, we note that the red oval above is not a projected path, but the area in which a system may form. Tracking maps are not created by National Hurricane Center forecasters until a tropical depression has formed.

Tropical Depression #3 could eventually become Tropical Storm Bret, the second named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season which started on June 1st. Arlene formed and dissipated earlier. The following is the official Sunday morning update from the National Hurricane Center:

Tropical Weather Outlook NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 800 AM EDT Sun Jun 18 2023 For the North Atlantic… Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico: 1. Eastern Tropical Atlantic (AL92): Showers and thunderstorms continue to show signs of organization in association with a tropical wave located several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Environmental conditions appear conducive for additional development, and a tropical depression is likely to form over the next day or two.

This system is expected to move westward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic through the middle part of the week. * Formation chance through 48 hours…high…80 percent. * Formation chance through 7 days…high…90 percent.
