BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Tropical Storm Bret is now expected to stay far south of the Florida Peninsula, eventually colliding with Central America as a tropical depression. While the news is good for Bret, it’s not quite as good for the system behind it — a tropical wave that now has a 70 percent chance of becoming a tropical depression by Friday afternoon. Its track remains unclear, but is certainly something to watch. The National Hurricane Center does not offer tracking guidance until a system reaches tropical depression status.
This is the late afternoon update from the National Hurricane Center for Wednesday, June 21st, 2023:
Central Tropical Atlantic (AL93): Recent satellite-derived wind data indicate the area of low pressure located about midway between the west coast of Africa and the Lesser Antilles has an elongated surface circulation with maximum sustained winds of about 30 mph. However, showers and thunderstorms continue to show signs of organization, and environmental conditions appear conducive for further development. Therefore, a tropical depression will likely form during the next day or so while the system moves westward to west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph across the central tropical Atlantic through the early part of the weekend.
Formation chance through 48 hours…high…70 percent. Formation chance through 7 days…high…80 percent.
