UPDATE: 7:09 p.m. Thursday — We have learned that just before 7 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody in the Daytona Beach area.

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A manhunt is underway across South Florida for a kidnapping suspect who allegedly left his child victims outside the gated community of Seven Bridges late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

Gated communities along Lyons Road in the area of Clint Moore Road were given a suspect photograph hours later by authorities who BocaNewsNow.com has learned expected it to only be shared with community security patrols. But several community property managers released the photos in mass emails to homeowners with very little information. That led to panic across parts of West Delray Beach and West Boca Raton — especially in the communities of Seven Bridges, Boca Bridges, The Bridges, Lotus, and Mizner Country Club.

BocaNewsNow.com tracked down the original kidnapping location to Coral Springs, where officials released the following statement to BocaNewsNow.com Thursday afternoon:

“The suspect, Edwin Munera, has an active warrant for the kidnapping of two young children amongst other felonies he committed during an incident that occurred on August 9th, 2023, in the city of Coral Springs.  He was last seen in the area of State Road 7/ US Highway 441 and Cabernet Drive in Delray Beach, FL,  where he abandoned the children and his vehicle on the side of the road. The vehicle and children were recovered by law enforcement and the children have subsequently been returned to their mother in Coral Springs.  He is possibly still in the area.  If he is located DO NOT approach and immediately call the police.  He is to be considered armed and dangerous.”

While you can always call 911 to report a citing of Munera, CrimeStoppers of Broward County will keep your information anonymous. 954-483-TIPS, or visit online.
