BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — There is no air conditioning at Calusa Elementary School, according to multiple families who provided an internal email to BOCANEWSNOW.com Tuesday morning. A Palm Beach County School District spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The air conditioning was inoperable from the start of the school day. It’s unclear why the school district decided to hold school in a hot building on a day when a heat advisory is in effect. Several parents expressed concern over health problems that could be induced by the lack of free-flowing air in the school. The heat advisory is predicting a heat index, or “real feel” temperature of 110. It was nearly 90 degrees outside in Boca Raton as of 9 a.m.

An email sent to parents said the technicians are working on the air conditioning and hope to have it return to functionality late this morning.

Calusa Elementary is located at 9580 West Calusa Park Drive in Boca Raton. Check back for updates.
