BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton man is in the Palm Beach County Jail Friday morning after allegedly threatening to shoot several students at Loggers Run Middle School. Loggers Run is located on Glades Road in West Boca Raton.

According to a police report obtained by BocaNewsNow.com and published below, Fernando Gaete, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday night after police say he posted a threat to the social media platform “Discord.” Palm Beach County School Police were tipped to the threat. The agency filed an emergency request to obtain IP address. That address apparently led to Gaete — a former student of the school.

Parents of students at Loggers Run received this robocall from the school’s principal:

“I’m reaching out to inform you that late last night, law enforcement learned of a threat made about Loggers’ Run on social media. Because we take every threat seriously, school police thoroughly investigated the matter. They were able to identify the adult male responsible for posting the threat. He was arrested overnight without incident.”As your principal and a parent of LRMS students myself, I understand how important it is to communicate with you openly and assure you our campus is safe. We are operating under normal school conditions today. As always, I appreciate your trust in the safety and care for your children.”In Florida, making a threat against a school is a felony. This applies whether the threat is written or electronic, or even if it’s meant as a joke.”

Gaete allegedly wrote that he planned to shoot six students at the school. He’s being held on $100,000 bond and is charged with “intimidation, written or electronic threat of mass shooting or act of terrorism.” Gaete lives in an apartment on Boca Ranch Drive.
