UPDATE: 4:09 p.m. September 13, 2023 (Day After Incident) — The public relations representative for the Robinson and Morton, the contractor, provided this statement to BocaNewsNow.com: “Yesterday, Sept. 12, 2023, one of our trade contractors’ team members was working from a column form assembly used for concrete placement when the column form and reinforcing steel cage overturned. The worker was assessed by first responders and transported to the nearest level one trauma center as a precautionary measure. We have been informed that the worker has only minor injuries and has since been discharged from the hospital. We will continue to analyze the situation and have readily cooperated with all investigations by regulatory agencies. Safety is one of our core values, and something we stress every day throughout our organization and at every worksite. We will continue our efforts to identify any opportunities to improve our safety processes.”
UPDATE: 9:30 a.m. — The construction worker suffered what we have learned to be significant injuries after being crushed by the construction debris. The worker is being airlifted to Delray Medical Center which takes just a few minutes from the scene. Delray Medical Center is a trauma center. Boca Raton Regional Hospital is not. OSHA has been called to the scene.
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A construction worker was critically injured just before 9 a.m. Tuesday at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. A complex rescue operation is underway as of 9 a.m.
According to BocaNewsNow.com sources familiar with the unfolding incident, a worker was on an upper floor of the hospital which remains under construction. Part of the wall — or scaffolding — collapsed, possibly impaling the worker. Trauma Hawk has been called to transport the worker from Boca Raton Regional to an area trauma center. Boca Raton Regional Hospital can not handle trauma cases — it is not a trauma center.
It was not immediately clear what happened in the moments before the incident, whether other workers are involved, or what the worker is specifically trapped in or under.
We will be updating throughout the morning. Check BocaNewsNow.com for the very latest.
