BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — We don’t normally like to play into stereotypes, but we can’t ignore Christmas night in Boca Raton and Delray Beach. If you want to hear complaining — all connected to 516 area codes — look no further than Gary Woo Express at Yamato Road and 441. Next to Temple Beth El.

Phone orders as of 5p are being quoted as three hours. You read that correctly. Three hours for Chinese food on Christmas night in Boca. But what makes it an event is listening to complainers who can’t fathom that anything in their world would take that long.

There are two groups of people in the lobby of Gary Woo’s. Those who live here year round and couldn’t care less. And those who proudly check-in with a 516 area code — that’s Long Island — who are arrogant, sometimes combative, and frequently rude. They sit in chairs along side the back of the restaurant and murmur, in a loud voice, about how dissatisfied they are with the service. Not everyone with a 516 area code is acting poorly. But many.

“Can I talk to the manager?” asked one balding middle-aged man in a hoodie.

Watch as the customer expresses his displeasure to the manager.

“Aww my gawd, I called hours ago,” announced a woman sitting in the back.

High class! This man, complaining about service with his wife on FaceTime for all to hear, uses expletives to express his displeasure. He demanded his money back.

“You called hours ago?! I called days ago!” boasted another man.

If you’re looking for entertainment on Christmas night, you can’t beat Gary Woo’s. If you’re looking for food, and haven’t ordered as of 5 p.m., perhaps make smarter plans.

UPDATE: After demanding an “f-ing refund,” balding hoodie guy’s food appeared. Here’s a photo of the joyous moment. Even in Gaza, where there is no food this Christmastime, there are cheers of joy that his food arrived.

      1. There are Karen’s in all walks of life in all areas of the country. Go to Philly, or Detroit or Syracuse on Christmas at a Chinese food place and see the attitudes. This site is going down, it is racist and low quality. I bet you won’t post our comment again.

      2. You say it is Jewish-run website, but I do not see it. I have read this website every day and the fact that this website is inherently against the agent that God sent to this great country to save it from evil, is emblematic of an underlying rebellion against our God. If you wish to be considered “Jewish” then I recommend you start to listen and feel God’s will.

        1. I found this article to be incredibly anti-semetic. How dare you even bring GAZA up??? I mean WTF??
Gary Woo Restaurant took on more than they could handle. They should have stopped taking orders if they were overwhelmed. Waiting three hours for food is crazy. And FU also for disparaging 516 Long Islanders. I cannot believe you are a Jewish Run news org. Maybe you are SELF HATING JEWS.

        2. Dude, during the Holocaust Jewish people were acting as informants for the Nazi’s and engaging in activities’ that negatively impacted the Jewish community both directly and indirectly. Just being Jewish is not a get out of jail free card especially when the actions can be perceived as putting Jewish people in a negative spot light.

      3. Gary Woo enjoys a lucrative biz in that neighborhood of snow birds knowing that Monday is always busy for Chinese food take out. Now add a major holiday where all other restaurants are closed – he might have anticipated a surge AND – I’m guessing he stayed open for that bonanza but did not staff up for better service ???? Now he blames his customers for frustration after waiting hours for their orders. Rudeness is always wrong but so is bad service – if you are open for business – be ready to serve your community. The two wrongs here do not make it right.

      4. These humans crying and complaining about there food order like the one knuckle stating his kids are hungry , give him a lollipop suck on and then he won’t be hungry.Like the article stated they’re all 516 area code not everyone is complaining from there but the majority probably is nothing better to do on Christmas night while thousands and millions of people are going hungry all over the world and they’re crying because they can’t get their food a night like this is one of the most busiest times for Chinese restaurants. I read an article on CNN about a bridge collapse in the Himalayas the only supply line to get food in lucky to have zip ties going from one side of the rocks or mountains to the other side to be able to very over food in carts one of those like this for those guys up at Gary wolves they’d be lost forget it they be dead already give me at the emergency room. They really have no idea nor have I to be really hungry no idea shame on them for giving the owners of The Establishment a hard time.

        1. Shame on you for being so obnoxious. Three hours is a crazy amount of time to wait for food. We are in America, not the Himalayas, or Gaza, or anywhere else. The problem is the restaurant. They should have stopped taking orders if they couldn’t handle it.
But you, sir, are an ass. And your grammar is awful, too. Your comment made no sense.

      5. There is nothing anti Jewish in the article . It’s not anti semitic to despise the behavior of obnoxious , entitled, loud , pushy, and offensive people who treat people wirh disrespect . If those people happen to be Jews from NY perhaps in this time of growing anti semitism they would be more conscious of their public image.

    1. It’s almost exclusively Jewish people eating Chinese food on Christmas. I’m one of them…from NJ & no longer a snowbird. The bad behavior by this unfortunate sampling of rude, entitled customers is embarrassing to me. With all that’s going on in the world, they are very lucky that slow service at a Chinese takeout restaurant is their biggest problem.

      1. Ronni, don’t you see how racist this article is against Jewish people, and Jewish people from Long Island? The restaurant should have stopped taking orders if they couldn’t handle the load. And the fact that they brought up GAZA at the end of the article?? Completely anti-semitic!!

    2. The author is not antisemitic. What he is pointing out is Jewish Rabbinical law. The injunction against embarrassing one’s fellow is implicit in the written Torah’s commandment not to oppress one another (VaYikra 25:14). People want to shame others and that’s what happened at this place. Customers shaming the resto crew. Maryland Jews go to the movies Christmas Day. Much more relaxing. Chinese restaurant must be a NY tradition.

    3. I wanted Chinese on Christmas even though we celebrated Christmas . I’m so Glad I live where our local Chinese restaurant was only one hour wait. If GW’s told the customers how long the wait would be then the customers should have been prepared to wait or gone somewhere else. If GW’s didn’t manage expectations properly, that’s where the problem would lie.

On a separate note, I’m from New York City, been here 12 years.
Religion aside, I have found the latest influx of post covid New Yorkers have generally been rude, entitled, aggressive (and dangerous) drivers with no regard for how the local community differs. They’re not here to assimilate, they’re here to steamroll. It’s shameful and I’m embarrassed to say I’m from New York since they’ve arrived.

    4. Why did you begin the article with “We don’t normally like to play into stereotypes” if you weren’t implying a group. The people in the clip were rude, and the restaurant was at fault for managing the order flow incompetently. However, your introduction did set an anti-sematic tone. If I’m wrong, what stereotype were you playing into?

    5. Everyone should be praising the Chinese establishment’s staying open for you to eat. They are also the only places that stay open during a hurricane. They are heros. Be nice to them. Can’t wait for all you new 516ers to experience a hurricane down here. Just wait till you can’t charge all your EV’s for a week or 2.

    6. There are how many Chinese restaurants open on Christmas Day…Every one..This is a bunch of NY Jews playing their part as a-holes saying let’s get from Gary Woos..Please…In Boynton No Wait…Lucky Panda best food in Boynton…Fu Wing Also..Stop it…
