DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Delray Beach man was allegedly so high that he thought someone was in the closet of the room he shares with his girlfriend. He allegedly took a gun, shot the closet, only to hit a housemate in the room on the other side of the wall where the closet stands.

The incident occurred in Lantana in September. After a multi-month investigation, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office just arrested Jacob Salcedo of the 500 block of West Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. The investigation allegedly revealed that Salcedo had a substantial amount of narcotics at the time of the shooting — and the weapon used to shoot and injure the housemate.
Salcedo is now charged with “trafficking in a controlled substance, ” “trafficking in — or possessing — 14 or more grams of amphetamine,” and “possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted Florida felon.” According to the police report obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, Salcedo possessed 4-14g of Fentanyl while armed.
The housemate was transported to JFK Medical Center where he was treated and eventually released. He was sleeping at the time he was shot so apparently couldn’t help police with the investigation. Salcedo’s girlfriend, however, was there as it happened. That girlfriend, Mia Rubino, has also been charged in connection with the shooting. A detective wrote this about Rubino:
“An additional interview was conducted with (Rubino) who stated that Jacob Salcedo has PTSD and nad an episode in her bedroom. During the episode Jacob Salcedo believed there was someone in the closet at which point he obtained a firearm (pistol) and shot into the closet. She stated she took the firearm from Jacob Salcedo and placed it on her dresser prior to rendering aid to (the victim). She did not know if the firearm was still on the dresser or if Jacob Salcedo had moved it.
It should be noted that Jacob Salcedo is a 4 time-convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms. Jacob Salcedo’s most recent adjudication was on 5/16/18 where he was adjudicated guilty for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Jacob Salcedo was sentenced to 5 years in the Florida Department of Corrections and was released on 3/24/23.”
Salcedo remains held in the Palm Beach County jail on $50,000 bond.
