Delray Beach Man Ordered To Pay Back $63,000. $100 At A Time.

BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Delray Beach resident Len Roitman is guilty of defrauding B.J.’s Wholesale Club in a scheme he pulled off with the help of a B.J.’s employee in Boynton Beach. Roitman, 70, will now spend what could be the rest of his life repaying B.J.’s $100 at a time — until he reaches $63,221.
As we reported first in May of 2023 when BocaNewsNow.com obtained the arrest report: “Roitman asked for help back in November when he was having a problem using the self-checkout lane. The store employee allegedly used what’s known as a “Type B Coupon Key” code to help Roitman — that code apparently permits any coupon value to be entered. Over the weeks and months that followed, Roitman sought out the employee, Justice Buonsante, during his trips to B.J.’s.
Buonsante, who later told police that she received no compensation from Roitman, allegedly helped Roitman defraud B.J.’s out of more than $63,000 through 79 transactions. At the time of his arrest. Roitman — according to police — had just paid $3.11 for $1208 worth of merchandise.”
In a just-agreed to deal with the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s office, Roitman entered a guilty plea in exchange for pre-trial diversion. If Roitman stays out of criminal trouble for three years, and repays the $63,000, Roitman will have no criminal record related to this incident. We note that Buonsante is also required to contribute to the repayment, but the actual split was not documented in the court filing.
The deal is expected to be finalized during a final hearing on February 14, 2024. Roitman lives in the 3000 block of West Latitude Circle in Delray Beach.
