BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — More people died in Florida from COVID-19 over the past three months than any other state in the nation, with the two exceptions of New York and California. COVID hospitalizations are also on the rise. In Palm Beach County 83 people were hospitalized for COVID over just the past week, according to the CDC, which also shows that 166 Broward County residents were admitted to a hospital for COVID in the past week, while 166 were admitted in Miami-Dade County.

By percentage, it’s a nearly four percent increase in hospitalizations in Palm Beach County, a 16.9 percent hospitalization increase in Broward County, and a 16.9 percent increase in Miami Dade.

The death count is also rising. In the past three weeks, the CDC says 955 people have died from COVID-19 in the State of Florida. That is among the highest in the nation, with only New York logging more deaths — at 1,043, and California with 1,178.

The CDC says that it’s not just COVID — and the new JN.1 variant. The flu is also spreading with RSV, a respiratory infection that affects young children and often senior citizens. Immunization rates are much lower for all three viruses than health professionals would like.

Most pharmacies continue to offer free COVID-19, Flu, and when age-appropriate, RSV vaccinations.
