BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — The fifth annual “Morgan and Friends Fight Cancer Tournament” is official and set for January 8th and 9th at Boca Raton’s St. Andrews Country Club. Here is the official announcement from St. Andrews:
Morgan Pressel and St. Andrews Country Club are excited to announce the 5th Annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Tournament to be held on January 8 and 9, 2012. This year’s event promises to be larger than ever as the LPGA star and her fellow club members celebrate the fifth anniversary of the event, which has raised over $1.7 million to date to help fight breast cancer through early detection, treatment and research.
Over the past four years the Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Tournament, through the fundraising efforts of St. Andrews Country Club members, has been the driving force behind the state-of-the-art Kathryn Krickstein Pressel MammoVan. Purchased in 2009, it has tested more than 2,518 women in Palm Beach County many of whom had never had a mammogram. Net proceeds from January’s event will continue to support the MammoVan as well as research initiatives and other breast cancer related projects.
“I’m really excited for this year’s event which marks our fifth year. The members of St. Andrews Country Club have not only supported me in my professional career but also in this event, which honors my mother’s memory,” stated Pressel. “The first year we raised over $450,000 and each subsequent year my fellow members have continued to step up to the plate.”
The tournament is a tribute to Morgan’s mother, the late Kathryn Krickstein Pressel, who lost her battle to breast cancer when Morgan was only 15. “I am overwhelmed by what we have accomplished since the inception of the event.” said Pressel. “The generous support of everyone involved is truly moving and to know our efforts are helping the community is inspiring.”
Pressel will be joined by her friends and LPGA Tour stars Juli Inkster, Cristie Kerr and Brittany Lincicome. The event kicks off on Sunday evening with an exclusive dinner and silent and live auctions. Monday morning, winning bidders play holes with a PGA or LPGA star. The groups are followed by hundreds of members and media. The morning golf event is followed by an incredible golf exhibition put on by Morgan & her Friends, entertaining more than 300 club members with anecdotes about their career, hitting shots and sharing tips with the members.
Craig Martin, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager, St. Andrews Country Club adds, “St. Andrews Country Club is proud to once again host the 5th Annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Tournament. We all look forward to being a part of the fight against breast cancer and are ready to once again deliver a two-day event unlike any other, St. Andrews Style.”
