DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — We first told you about this last week and now, it is here. A major fundraiser in Delray for those troops serving overseas.
Here’s the info:
Crane’s BeachHouse Hotel & Tiki Bar, which USA Weekend has hailed as one of four “unique getaway spots” for a romantic weekend, is pairing up with the City of Delray Beach for the fourth year in a row to help our soldiers overseas.
As part of Project Holiday, a communitywide effort by the City of Delray’s You Are Not Alone and the Church of the Palms, Crane’s BeachHouse will be hosting a SUPPORT THE TROOPS Fun-Raiser on Thursday, November 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
‘We call it a Fun-Raiser because there is no cost to attend,” says Cathy Balestriere, general manager of Crane’s BeachHouse, which is located at 82 Gleason Street. “All we ask is that people bring a much-needed item that we can donate to our brave troops abroad. A percentage of bar sales and all raffle proceeds from the event will be donated to You Are Not Alone, a local group of families who have family members serving overseas, many of them bravely serving in conflict areas.”
“While many of our brave men and women in Iraq will be home by the end of this year, we still have troops in Afghanistan and trouble spots around the world, so our need to raise funds and support remains critical,” she adds. “And this year, people can make financial donations online at www.OneSoliderAtaTime.com.”
Among the poolside fun at the SUPORT OUR TROOPS event will be:
+ Musical performances by the popular Caribbean singer and recording artist DYMiN, plus the high energy, 6-piece band LATIN PULSE, playing a full set of Latin Dance, Rock, Salsa and Jazz
+ Drink specials and light hors d’oeuvres from Crane’s BeachHouse Hotel & Tiki Bar
+ Raffle for various prizes including a free stay at Crane’s BeachHouse
While attendance at this SUPPORT OUR TROOPS Fun-Raiser is free, people are expected to bring one or more of the following items that can be shipped to our soldiers overseas:
+ Boxed and/or individual wrapped drink packets (Crystal Light, Wal-Mart or Target brand, Kool-Aid, hot chocolate, etc)
+ Foil-packed tuna and chicken or other non-perishable food items such as Slim Jims and Beef Jerky, or individual bags of nuts, dried fruit, trail mix or sunflower seeds
+ Letters of encouragement, holiday cards, notes and AT&T Phone Cards
+ Cereal bars or granola bars, crackers,
+ Foot and baby powder
+ AA or AAA batteries
+ Sun block, lip protection and bug repellant
+ White and black tube socks
+ Hygiene products, such as hand sanitizer or lotion, toothpaste, deodorant and baby/facial/body wipes (no bigger than 2 _” wide packages)
+ Disposable cameras, games and playing cards, used CD’s, DVD’s
+ Small holiday knick-knacks (pre-packages or boxed to avoid breakage)
NO: Coffee, Chocolates, VHS tapes or cassettes
