Christine Lynn Crosses The Finish Line During The 2012 Race.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) –Stand Among Friends has announced it will name Christine E. Lynn its 2013 emb(race)® Honorary Chair.
The local non-profit organization is especially proud to honor Lynn, as its headquarters are located inside the Christen E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University.  Lynn joins Stand Among Friends founder Shawn Freidkin and FAU President M.J. Saunders as the event’s permanent and official chairs.
Stand Among Friends will hold the third annual emb(race)® fundraising event at its Disability Center on Florida Atlantic University’s Boca Raton Campus on Sunday, February 24, 2013.
Whether you run, walk, roll, stroll, use a wheelchair or a walker, there is something for everyone in this “all-inclusive” race.  It will feature a 5K, 10K and one-mile family walk, and is open to participants of all ages and abilities.
Amongst those participants last year, were many local, famous faces including: US Congressmen Allen West, Ted Deutch and James Langevin, Boca Raton Mayor Susan Whelchel, Vice Mayor Susan Haynie, Commissioner Steve Abrams, Boca Raton City Council Member Constance Scott, NBC Channel 5’s Keli Fulton, FOX 29’s Rachel Leigh, and Olympic Gold Medalist Boxer Howard Davis Jr.
All proceeds benefit Stand Among Friends’ programs and services that support individuals with disabilities. SAF saw tremendous growth between its inaugural emb(race)—which attracted more than 1,200 participants and raised more than $72,000—and last year’s event, which drew a crowd of more than 1,500 and generated more than $140,000 in proceeds.
This time around, Ability Explosion and Stand Among Friends have joined forces to bring a series of events to the community, including emb(race)®. Ability Explosion has a vision for not only enriching the lives of disabled people, but also the lives of people everywhere. This event, along with future ones, will raise money to help people with disabilities of all kinds lead more independent and more enriched lives.
Emb(race)® is a message of hope – a historic day that celebrates everyone’s abilities. It’s an opportunity for friends, families and neighbors to come together and learn side by side about diversity in our community.
