DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — A West Palm Beach man is dead after eating roaches as part of a contest at a reptile store in Deerfield Beach.

Detectives are investigating his death.

The Broward Sheriff's Office says 32 year old Edward Archbold ate dozens of roaches and worms at Ben Siegel Reptile Store in an attempt to win a python. There were many competitors.

After the competition — which he won — Archbold apparently told others that he didn't feel well — then collapsed in front of the store.

He was rushed to Broward Health North where he was later pronounced dead.

No other contest complained of illness after eating roaches and worms.

The Broward Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on Archbold.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reports that Archbold was arrested back in 2004 on a charge of indecent exposure. He was ultimately convicted. The booking — and conviction — information is below.
