FAU Announces February Concert Calendar

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — If you’re looking for a little love music to celebrate Valentine’a Day, look no further than Florida Atlantic University. The school just released its February calendar for concerts:

Florida Atlantic University’s department of music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present a variety of concerts in February. All concerts take place in the University Theatre on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.
On Sunday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. FAU’s Jazz Band and Combos will present jazz standards and new works for big band under the direction of Neil Bonsanti. This concert is free with a suggested donation of $10 at the door.
There will be a Valentine’s Day concert titled “The Winds of Romance” on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m., presented by the Florida Wind Symphony Jazz Orchestra. The concert will feature pianist Heather Coltman, performing “Rhapsody in Blue.” There also will be a champagne reception following the concert. The concert is $15, and concert and reception are $30. On Friday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m., the FAU Choral Ensembles, conducted by Patricia Fleitas and Stacie Lee Rossow, will present a showcase of choral works. The FAU Symphony Orchestra, led by Laura Joella, will present a concert featuring FAU’s finest student instrumental and vocal performers on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. (note this new time), the FAU Chamber Soloists will present Russian masterworks by Arensky, Glazunov, Scriabin and Rachnaminoff. The FAU Wind Ensemble will present an evening of new and old music on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. featuring “Mothership,” by Mason Bates, a work for band electronics that will include soloists performing via webcam from the across the U.S. These concerts are free with a suggested donation of $10 at the door.
On Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m., Klezmer East, directed by clarinetist Paul Green, will perform a concert featuring a variety of Klezmer, Jewish/jazz fusion, Latin Jazz, and straight jazz tunes, as well as Sephardic and Purim songs to honor the holiday. Tickets are $10 and are available at fauevents.com or by calling 800-564-9539.
