On February 28th Boca High School Drama department which won nine Cappies in 2012 including ‘Best Musical’, will be performing the classic musical love story which also won a Tony for ‘Best Musical’ – it truly will be the ‘best performing the best’. With music and lyrics by Cole Porter and an original book by P.G. Wodehouse, ANYTHING GOES is one of the most joyous and popular musicals in the American repertory. The show was first performed on Broadway in 1934 and quickly became one of the longest running musicals of the decade. It has been revived several times, always receiving great acclaim.
Shipboard shenanigans abound as the beloved musical opens the show with a vintage affair of fabulous music and dazzling dance. Passengers aboard the cruise liner S.S. American include a gangster on the run posing as a minister, a nightclub singer and her four dancing “Angels,” a society Miss who is engaged to an English gentleman (also on the ship) and her ex-boyfriend who stows away on the boat in an attempt to win her back. A series of comical mistaken identities ensue as the passengers and crew sing and dance their way across the Atlantic to fantastic Cole Porter tunes such as the infamous “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “You’re The Top,” “It’s De-lovely” and “Blow Gabriel, Blow,”. ANYTHING GOES, performed in the Kathryn Lindgren Theater, promises to turn back time to the 1930s for an evening of irresistible humor and excitement.
