BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — After a week of murder and violence in Boca, here's a “feel good” story as we head into Friday. An area middle school soccer team is set to play for the county's top spot.
According to coach Josh Bender:
The Don Estridge High Tech Middle School Lady Dragons will play for the Palm Beach County Championship on Friday.
The Lady Dragons finished the regular season with a 9-0-1 record, a team record 40 goals scored, and did not allow a regular season goal all year. They secured their 6th division title in school history, as well as their 6th South County Championship with a win over Boynton Beach rival, Christa McAulliffe middle school. The girls will now face Wellington Landing Middle's Lady Gators who the Lady Dragons lost to in the Palm Beach finals last season.
The Lady Dragons and Lady Gators have played in the Palm Beach finals four other times. They are 2-2 in those matches.
The girls were led this year by a stifling defense consisting of captain Hailey Skiff, Brenda Martinez, Val Lara, and Arianna Hilliard. The offense was paced by Isabella Santini and her 16 goals. Sydney Jones and Stephanie Dodson led the team in assists.
