BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Nothing covert about it. Gifted actor and singer — Mandy Patinkin, known by many as Saul in the Showtime hit “Homeland” — will headline the upcoming event known simply as “The Event” benefiting the Jewish community in Boca Raton.
From Jewish Federation:
From synagogues, partner agencies and schools, from longtime leaders and donors of all ages to newcomers, and from different generations – on February 4, 2014 at Boca West Country Club, hundreds from throughout South Palm Beach County’s vibrant, diverse Jewish community will be coming together for a second year to acknowledge and celebrate all the good we do together. With guest speaker Mandy Patinkin, Tony and Emmy Award Winner and star of Showtime’s Homeland, THE EVENT is sure to be a night that will make them even prouder. The festivities will kick off at 6:30 pm with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and a showcase of the Jewish community’s wealth of resources.
Beginning at 7:30 pm, amid the celebration, the program will remind us of how much our help is needed by our neighbors and our global Jewish family. Recipients whose lives have been changed through help from our community will personally and powerfully share how we have been there for them. Patinkin, whose rich and varied decades as an actor and tenor have endeared him to multiple generations, will speak about his Jewish journey amid anecdotes from his career.
“Last year, more than 500 people experienced the sheer joy of coming together to celebrate how, together, we are able to do so much for so many,” said Eydie Holz. “We urge everyone interested to register now because space is limited – and with a wide array of synagogue, school and agency partners and a committed cadre of volunteers, even more of our neighbors will be coming together this year to revitalize and rededicate our community’s efforts.”
Holz is part of THE EVENT’s leadership team of Chairs: Michele & Larry Blair, Eydie & Ira Holz, Lisa & Stephen Mendelsohn, Jennifer & Craig Zeuner; and Founding Chairs: Debra & Larry Halperin
“There’s a true renaissance taking place in our Jewish community, and THE EVENT will celebrate and amplify this growing awareness, pride and joy in how, together, we do such extraordinary things,” said Stephen Mendelsohn.
“Together – as individuals and from throughout our diverse Jewish institutions – we feed, protect, teach, inspire, save and comfort so many in need right here, in Israel and around the world,” added Larry Blair. “At THE EVENT, we’ll truly feel and celebrate our collective strength – and our unsurpassed potential to do even more.”
“While we’re still a young Jewish community in years, we’re fully multigenerational, and we’re unrivaled in our numbers, density and vibrant diversity,” said Craig Zeuner. “THE EVENT represents a new day for us in South Palm Beach County, so we’re reaching out to make more people aware and bring them into an even larger community of caring. With Mandy Patinkin, of great appeal to our multiple generations, they’ll find out just how good it feels to do so much good together.”
This special night benefiting the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County will offer great food (dietary laws observed), entertainment and company for a couvert of $95 per person. A minimum household contribution of $365 to the 2014 Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County Annual Campaign is required to attend THE EVENT. Boca West Country Club is located at 20583 Boca West Drive, Boca Raton.
