HAZ MAT Incident Closes Southbound Turnpike Near Boca

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Part of Florida’a Turnpike is closed as a massive HAZ MAT situation is unfolding just south of Boca in Deerfield Beach.
From Broward Sheriff’s Office:
At 8:28 a.m., Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Deerfield Beach units and BSFR HazMat responded to the above location for a reported tractor trailer that overturned. The second trailer in a double tractor-trailer overturned, carrying 24 compressed hydrogen cylinders. HazMat Technicians have confirmed that some of the cylinders are leaking. An extended operation has been declared, and Hollywood FR HazMat team is the second team on scene assisting. Units are operating on radio TAC-1.
Motorists should avoid this area until the scene is mitigated, which may be late today. FHP has the Turnpike closed southbound from Sample Road to Commercial Boulevard. No injuries have been reported.
