BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — BocaNewsNow.com received two emails in a very short period of time today from two youngish readers upset that reports of their arrests may harm their future. “I’m in college!” said one. “One of the (multiple) charges has been dropped so it’s slander!” said another. One involved heroin. Another involved leaving the scene of a serious crash. Both of the articles remain.
We’ve been called names. We’ve been threatened. We’ve been mocked. We’ve been chastised. We really don’t care. Simply put: we’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: If you don’t want to be on this website — or any other information providing site that looks at police reports and arrest records on a regular basis — how about not getting arrested?
To be clear: we are not suggesting that you commit a crime and elude the police. We are suggesting that you don’t use heroin, don’t drive recklessly and cause a nearly fatal crash then flee. We suggest that you don’t beat your spouse or your date. We suggest that you not pop a bunch of pills, drink, and decide it’s okay to drive. We suggest that you don’t commit strangulation or neglect your kids.
For companies that threaten us: we suggest that you keep your restaurants clean, use common sense in your business practices, know who you’re employing and what they’re doing. We suggest that you not create dangerous situations for your customers, we suggest that you resolve consumer disputes. We suggest that you understand that in Florida, public records are, in fact, public and that the Sunshine Law isn’t for people who are nosey — it’s for people who care.
BocaNewsNow.com isn’t going anywhere. It’s a hobby. We may not publish every day. But when we do, it’s because the public has a right to know something we’ve seen, experienced or learned. Don’t like it? Don’t read it. But thousands of people every day check out these pages and very rarely are we called out on facts.
It’s simple. If you don’t want to be here, just be smart here.
