Palm Beach County Schools will start while many overnight camps are still in session.
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Overnight camps across the Northeast are already setting dates for NEXT summer, and the news is extraordinarily bad for Palm Beach County kids. Despite a lot of hoopla and suggestions that the School Board was open to a change, the Board is set to approve the proposed 2020-2021 calendar on Wednesday.
As it stands, school will start on August 10, 2020.
This calendar is completely out of sync with popular overnight camps in Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine attended by South Florida kids, including:
Camp Towanda: Last Day of Camp in 2020 is August 14th.
Camp Starlight: Last Day of Camp in 2020 is August 16th.
Camp Manitou: Last Day of Camp in 2020 is August 14th
Camp Winadu: Last Day of Camp in 2020 is August 14th
Trails End Camp: Last Day of Camp in 2020 is August 16th
This is just a sampling.
The Palm Beach County School Board is set to approve the August 10th, 2020 start date for school during its Wednesday night meeting. Parents have objected — loudly — but the Board plans to move forward, even though many teachers spend their summer months teaching kids at camp all over the country.
